Forest Class 2025 - 2026

Welcome to Forest Class! 🌿✨

My name is Miss Axon, and this is my third year teaching at Kettleshulme St James Primary School and in Forest Class.

I’m so excited to welcome you to Forest Class – a bright, friendly, and nurturing space where our EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 children learn, play, and grow together.

Our classroom is designed to be a happy and engaging place, with lots of different areas to explore. We have a cosy reading corner where children can get lost in the wonderful world of books, a calm area that provides a safe and quiet space, a writing area for our budding authors, and a large construction area where creativity and imagination can run free.

Beyond the classroom, we’re lucky to have our own outdoor learning area. Here, children can enjoy the sand and water pit, get creative at the painting table, explore exciting tuff tray activities, and snuggle up with a book in our outdoor reading nook. We’re also very fortunate to have Kett Cottage – a magical space for endless imaginative play.

I feel very fortunate to work with such a brilliant team. I work full time in Forest Class, but during my PPA time the children are taught by Mrs Price. Our amazing Teaching Assistant, Mrs Connick, is with us every morning, and we’re also supported by the wonderful Miss Scarlett and Miss ‘T’ Tomkinson in the afternoons.

Keeping active is an important part of our week too! As well as our weekly PE lessons, we do a weekly class run and take part in a yoga or fitness challenge set by the Year 6 Fitness Ambassadors.

Forest Class really is a special place – full of laughter, creativity, and care. I’m so proud of our class community, and I can’t wait to share this learning journey with you and your children.

Early Reading & Phonics

We use the phonics programme Read Write Inc. The following link provides an introduction to how we say the sounds:

We love and promote reading and recommend the following links, to find 100 best books for each year group to enjoy ...

We’re very excited to be re-launching our KS1 Reading Challenge for 2025–2026, created by our wonderful Librarians! The book list will stay the same as last year, so our Year 1 and Year 2 children can continue working towards reading all 25 books. The special badges and bookmarks proved to be very popular (and a fantastic motivator!) last year, and we can’t wait to see how many children rise to the challenge this time.
